Christine Edwards has more than thirty years of aviation and airport experience. She has served in key airport positions as well as an airport consultant. She brings a strong issue resolution perspective to each assignment. In addition, she is known for her stakeholder liaison and community outreach efforts. She has significant experience in airport noise mitigation and community liaison at two of the most controversial noise-regulated airports in the nation.
From October, 2003 until her retirement in May 2010, Ms Edwards served first as Assistant Airport Manager, then Acting Airport Director, and Deputy Director for Long Beach Airport. During that time she was responsible for development and implementation of policies, programs, and procedures to manage significant airport growth.
As a Special Projects Consultant to Long Beach Airport (7/99 to 10/03) Ms. Edwards provided technical support for airfield operations, special events, construction projects and security. She developed and implemented the Airport’s Runway Safety Program. She coordinated targeted education materials for pilots. In addition, she has coordinated the Airport’s participation in FAA research projects testing innovative technologies to improve runway safety. From December 1996 until July 1999 Ms. Edwards was the Acting Operations Officer, Long Beach Airport. She had a limited term contract to manage and direct daily airport operations including operations, maintenance, security, emergency services and noise mitigation.
From June 1986 until May 1993, Ms. Edwards was the manager, Airport Operations and Facilities, for John Wayne Airport. She directed airside and landside operations, airport security and emergency services at a medium hub airport during a time of substantial growth and facility development. She was directly responsible for ensuring daily airport operations were minimally impacted by major terminal and airfield construction projects. She was also responsible for bringing new facilities into service. Ms. Edwards began her aviation career as the Airport Noise and Environmental Specialist for John Wayne Airport serving in that capacity for 10 years. She served as a focal point for community groups and media on airport noise, safety, environmental and airline access issues.
